ICU: A three bed CCU/ICU is available for the critically ill or injured patient. Our purpose is to provide quality care and dignity for our patients. This unit provides the highest concentration of care in the hospital with nurses and doctors who are specially skilled and highly trained. As practitioners of the art and science of healing, we witness some of life's most intimate, poignant and critical moments. It is our goal that we do so with sensitivity and skill.

Med-Surg: A twenty-two bed Medical/Surgical Unit provides compassionate and quality care to medical and surgical patients. Our services include outpatient surgery, in-patient surgery, and telemetry provided by an excellent nursing, medical, and ancillary staff. Our goal is to provide the highest level of nursing and medical management using a collaborative multidisciplinary approach, and to improve and restore when possible, the physical, emotional, and spiritual health of our patients. We also strive to control pain, promote patient comfort, and for those patients whose conditions cannot be treated, to provide an environment conducive to death with dignity.

Discharge Planning: An integral part of our multidisciplinary team is Discharge Planning. Discharge Planning actually begins at the patient's admission to the hospital and continues up to and beyond discharge. We realize that one of the most frightening aspects of hospitalization can be leaving the hospital and the security of being cared for by our staff. Our patients benefit from an in-depth evaluation of their potential or actual physical, emotional, and spiritual needs and the link to the resources to meet those needs after discharge

Emergency Room: The Howard Hospital Emergency Room is a small, 5-bed department staffed around the clock with highly skilled Physicians and Nurses. We see and treat approximately 1,000 patients a month (an average of about 33 per 24-hour day).

Surgery: Our Surgery department provides general, orthopedic, cataract and other specialty surgery services. Our orthopedic services specialize in total joint replacement. There are new physicians practicing in our community, which enhances our surgery center and services.

Medical Imaging: Our Medical Imaging department provides services in diagnostic x-ray, CT scanning, digital mammography, bone mineral density scanning, ultrasound, and MRI. With the addition of our new MRI, Howard Memorial Hospital boasts one of the most comprehensive and state-of-the-art medical imaging centers in Northern California. Our services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Outpatient services are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Laboratory: Our laboratory provides complete laboratory testing for our inpatients, emergency patients and outpatients. We are fully accredited by JCAHO and licensed by the State of California and HCFA. We provide services on a 24-hour, 7-day a week basic. Our outpatient services are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

Physical Therapy: The Department of Physical Therapy at Howard Memorial Hospital has available seven licensed therapists with a wide variety of specialties to best meet your needs. We take pride in our ability to provide a continuum of care including in-patient, home health, outpatient orthopedic, sports injuries, wound care, and work rehab. Our Physical Therapy Department is the place to have your therapy needs met! Our outpatient services are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Respiratory Therapy: Our respiratory therapy department provides services for patients with asthma, pneumonia and other breathing problems, as well as life support for patients who need it. We treat both in and out patients and provide education as needed.

Education: Community Education: Howard Memorial Hospital is the primary sponsor and coordinator of the annual Hometown Healthy Fair. In conjunction with other local businesses and sponsors, we have established a standard of excellence in providing updated education and information to our community members in an informal and fun atmosphere. Health screenings, back safety & posture screening, as well as interactive models that display common surgical procedures are a few of our highlights. Howard Memorial Hospital also feels educational seminars play an important role in meeting the needs of our community and is committed to providing low cost educational seminars to the general public.

Staff Development: We value our staff at Howard Memorial Hospital and promote continuing education programs based on their requests and needs. BLS, ACLS, PALS, NALS are a just a few of the certified programs we provide. We offer annual safety and security training as well as programs identified by individual or department need.

Diabetic Education: The Diabetes Management Program at Howard Memorial Hospital has the answers you need to assist you in understanding your diabetes. We help you develop a healthy lifestyle by addressing meal planning, glucose monitoring, medications, and complications associated with the diagnosis.

Pharmacy: Our pharmacy services provide 24-hour medication coverage for hospital inpatients. We provide consulting and technical support for physicians and nursing staff in regards to medication therapy.

Orthopedic Joint Center: The Orthopedic Joint Center of Northern California provides an enhanced quality of life for joint replacement patients. It was designed to effectively educate, operate on and rehabilitate patients receiving total joint replacements. The program provides specialized education, advanced pre-operative care, enhanced in-patient experience and coordinated after-care.
