Willits - Howard Memorial Hospital Auxiliary came up big
with yet another donation which will benefit the hospital and
community. The Auxiliary donated a State-of-the-Art advanced life
support skills manikin which will provide quality education to the
hospitals health care professionals.
The manikin is used to train clinicians in everything from
starting complicated IVs to handheld arrhythmia and defibrillation.
The manikin recreates over 1400+ dysrhythmias and allows for student
assessment of heart and breath sounds. It also allows for pupillary
assessment of normal, constricted and dilated pupils.
Were thrilled to make this donation to Howard Memorial
Hospital, stated Sherry Terry, Auxiliary president. This $8,000
donation is one of many weve made during the past few years to
assist the hospital in providing quality care to the community.
During the years weve donated close to $600,000 in equipment.
continued Terry.
The manikin will be used to give refresher courses to MDs, RNs
and Lab Techs for ACLS and CPR classes, commented Kristy Hosford,
trainer in the hospital education department.
Accrediting bodies, such as the Joint Commission, require that
RNs and other health professionals participate in mock emergency
procedures in order to keep skills sharp. The manikin will help make
the practice very close to a real life experience.
I believe we are the only facility in Mendocino County to have
this type of advanced training manikin, stated Hosford. Its
really an incredible tool for keeping our health team certified.
The manikin is programmed through a computer software program to
have simulated human reactions. You even feel a pop upon correct
placemat of the IV, said Hosford. The manikin has teeth, tongue,
larynx, epiglottis, false cords, vocal cords, lungs and stomach.
Its one fantastic training tool, commented Hosford.
We want to thank Auxiliary for this valuable donation, stated
Kevin Erich, President. This training Manikin will help us to
better serve our community.
